CLARION WOMEN HOST "LADY LEGENDS" SUNDAY

Former Clarion University First Team All-American and Hall of Famer Carlita Jones makes a return trip to Waldo S. Tippin Gym on Sunday as the "Lady Legends" basketball team from Pittsburgh, Pa. travels to Clarion to play the Golden Eagles on Sunday, November 30th at Noon. The game is an exhibition game, but should provide some great basketball.

"We’re really looking forward to playing the "Legends" team," said Clarion head coach Margaret "Gie" Parsons. "They have some great players and the experience will be invaluable to our team. This will also give local fans a chance to come and see Carlita play again."

The "Lady Legends" are coached by Monica Williams and plays exhibition games against many of teams in the area including the Division I schools in Pittsburgh.

Clarion has started the 2003 season fast with a 3-1 record. Wins over Ashland (64-54), Queens (82-58) and West Liberty (89-81), with a loss to Pitt-Johnstown (96-86). Leading the way is pre-season A-A Heather Cigich who is averaging 20.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game. With her in the starting lineup are Amelia Harris (17.2ppg, 5.2rpg), Shay Godwin (14.2ppg, 10.2rpg), Tiffany Peacock (14ppg) and Angela Phegley (7.2ppg).

Leading the "Legends" team will be Jones. A 1995 Clarion graduate, and a 2002 Clarion University Sports Hall of Fame" inductee, was a Kodak first Team All-American in 1994 & 95, Carlita set 21 Clarion records and 4 PSAc records. She has the Golden Eagles record for career points (1,948), rebounds (1,258) and blocked shots (258), along with single season points (587), rebounds (364), single game points (43) single game blocks (10) and much more. Jones led Clarion to 4 straight PSAC-West titles (1992, 93, 94, 95), 3 PSAC titles (91, 93, 94), two NCAA Elite 8 finishes (91, 94), a Clarion record of 93-25 and a PSAC-West slate of 41-7 during her career.
