CLARION’S CIGICH NAMED PSAC-WEST "PLAYER OF THE WEEK"
Clarion University junior forward Heather Cigich (Johnstown/Conemaugh Twp.) is the first PSAC-West women’s basketball "Player of the Week" for the 2003-04 season.
Cigich helped the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 start (through Nov. 24) including wins over Ashland, Queens (NY) and national-ranked West Liberty St.
In the three games, Cigich averaged 20.7 points, 14.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.3 assists per game. Her top effort game in an 89-81 win over West Liberty, which was ranked 15th in the nation by the Division II Bulletin, when she had 31 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
For the season, she is shooting 56.4 percent (22-39) from the floor and 81 percent (17-21) from the free-throw line.
Clarion returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 25) when it travels to Pitt-Johnstown. The Golden Eagles host Impact Basketball in an exhibition game at Tippin Gym Sunday before returning to regular-season action Dec. 6 when they host Mansfield at 1 p.m.
NOTES: Cigich was a preseason Honorable Mention All-American by the D-II Bulletin as well as a first-team preseason PSAC-West choice ... She was a first-team PSAC-West selection as a sophomore and a second-team PSAC-West selection as a freshman ... In two years plus three games Cigich has 876 points and 566 rebounds. She ranks 14th in school history in scoring and 12th in rebounding.
