GOLDEN EAGLE WOMEN’S B-BALL TEAM RANKED 9th IN EAST REGION

The Clarion University women’s basketball team is ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II East Region Poll released Wednesday.

It is the second time this season the Golden Eagles have entered the Top 10, which takes into account games played through Feb. 2.

Clarion is 13-7 overall and 3-2 in the PSAC-West. The Golden Eagles have won eight of their past 10 games and host Edinboro Wednesday night in a key PSAC-West contest.

Glenville State (16-1) is the top team in the East. Other PSAC schools in the Top 10 include California (19-1), who is ranked second and West Chester (13-6), who is ranked 8th.

The Golden Eagles have played three of the Top 10 teams beating No. 6 Pitt-Johnstown 79-67 and No. 8 West Chester 77-62 and losing to No. 2 California 70-47.

NOTES: The Regional rankings are used to determine the NCAA Division II playoff berths at the end of the season … Eight teams will make the NCAA D-II playoffs from the East Region … Automatic berths are awarded to the champions of the PSAC, CVAC and the WVIAC … Then the top five regional ranked teams excluding the automatic qualifiers qualify for the tournament as well.
