BARRY DEFEATS CLARION 62-59
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry University women's basketball team grounded the Clarion Golden Eagles62-59 earlier this afternoon in game two of the Comfort Inn on the Beach Classic at the Health & Sports Center.
The Buccaneers exploded out of the gates going on a 24-8 run to lead by 16 at
the 11:39 mark in the first
half. With 2:15 remaining, the Golden Eagles narrowed the lead to two (28-6),
but the Bucs responded to
carry a 35-26 lead into the half.
In the second half, the Bucs maintained the lead until the Eagles tied the game
at 58 apiece with 4:10 remaining. However, Yashica Nesbit's six-second half
steals gave the Bucs an added advantage as the Bucs held on for the win 62-59.
Amra Alagic led the Buccaneer winning efforts hitting five of nine
three-pointers for 15 points. Polona Oberc came in off the bench to add 11
points, while Sanja Zivanovic and Yojana Rodriguez chipped in 10
apiece. Zivanovic also added seven assists, while Nesbit added a career-high 10
steals.
Heather Cigich was the only double-figure scorer for the Golden Eagles
registering a game-high 26 points
and eight boards.
The Buccaneers finished with a season-high 47 percent from three-point range to
the Golden Eagles 23.
The Buccaneers will face off with Virginia Union who defeated St. Thomas Aquinas
79-61 in game one of the
tournament. Game time is slated for 4 pm. Clarion will face off with St. Thomas
Aquinas at 2 pm.
