GOLDEN EAGLE HEAD COACH PARSONS REACHES 200th WIN AT CLARION
Clarion University women’s head basketball coach Margaret "Gie" Parsons, a native of Monroeville and a 1967 Gateway High School graduate, won her 200th career game at Clarion when the Golden Eagles defeated Millersville 72-70 Saturday afternoon.
Parsons, in her 14th season with the Golden Eagles, has a record of 200-167 (54.5%) at Clarion and is the winningest coach in school history. In 22 years of coaching including eight at Thiel she has a career record of 310-240 (56.4%).
Top years at Clarion for Parsons include 1991 (24-8), 1992 (25-4), 1993 (24-6) and 1994 (26-4). She led the Golden Eagles to five straight PSAC-West titles from 1991-95 qualifying for the NCAA playoffs in each of those seasons. She has guided Clarion to PSAC Titles in 1991, 1993 and 1994 and to the NCAA "Elite Eight" in 1991 and 1994.
"Winning 200 games at Clarion is an honor," Parsons said. "I could not have done it without the players I have had in my 14 seasons. They get the real credit for the 200 wins. I have also had some very good assistant and graduate assistant coaches who also deserve credit for helping the program achieve 200 wins during my tenure."
