CLARION WOMEN UPSET #10 SHIPPENSBURG 75-67
(CLARION, PA): Clarion opened PSAC-West play tonight with a strong game in defeating #10 ranked Shippensburg 75-67 at Clarion’s Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.
Clarion upped its record to 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the PSAC-West, while Shippensburg dropped to 10-3 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC-West.
Clarion led 32-28 at halftime led by 12 first half points by center Courtney Willman and 7 each from Alison Stodart and Heather Cigich.
The second half was a typical PSAC-West war. Seven ties punctuated the second half, but Clarion senior forward Christina Lantz hit a lay-up with 2:45 left to give the Eagles a 63-62 lead they would never relinquish. Lantz went on to score 6 of Clarion’s next 8 points to put the Eagles up 71-66 with only 36-seconds left. The Eagles made 4 of 5 free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.
Lantz led Clarion with 22 points (11 of 15 from the floor) and 8 rebounds, including 18 second half tallies. Also contributing were Courtney Willman (14 points), Heather Cigich (12 points, 12 rebs) and Allison Stodart (8 assists).
Shippensburg was led by Jessie Gordon’s 19 and Emily Swinger’s 17 points.
