CIGICH PSAC-WEST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

After beating the No. 1 & No. 4 ranked teams in the NCAA East Region this past week, Clarion University’s women’s basketball team saw two of its players garner individual PSAC-West awards. Senior forward Christina Lantz (Rockford, Ohio/Parkway) was Co-Player of the Week, while freshman forward Heather Cigich (Davidsville/Conemaugh Twp.) was Rookie of the Week.

It was the second time this season that both Lantz and Cigich had earned their respective awards.

Lantz was a key figure in helping Clarion to a 3-1 week last week that included a 75-67 win over the top ranked team in the East Region and 10th ranked team in the nation Shippensburg Wednesday and a 66-52 win over the fourth ranked team in the East Region Kutztown Sunday. She averaged 20.3 ppg & 8.0 rpg for the week. Lantz had 19 points & 11 rebounds against Millersville, 22 points and eight rebounds against Shippensburg and 25 points & five rebounds against Kutztown.

Cigich also had a very good week for the Golden Eagles averaging 10.3 ppg and 11.5 rpg for the week. She had three double-doubles during the week including 10 points & 10 rebounds against Millersville, 12 points & 12 rebounds against Shippensburg and 10 points & 12 rebounds against East Stroudsburg. She finished off her week by narrowly missing a double-double scoring nine points and grabbing 12 rebounds against Kutztown.

For the season, Lantz is the second leading scorer in the PSAC averaging 16.5 ppg and the ninth leading rebounder in the conference with 8.5 rpg. Lantz has scored 25 or more points three times this season and has four double-doubles on the year.

Cigich is the fourth leading rebounder in the PSAC with 9.3 rpg and is also averaging 12.0 ppg, the second best on the team. On the season Cigich has seven double-doubles.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES: Lantz shared the Player of the Week award with California’s Sara McKinney who averaged 23.5 ppg, 12.0 rpg and 5.5 assists per game ... Lantz was also the Player of the Week for the playing week ending Dec. 1 ... Cigich was the Rookie of the Week for the playing week ending Dec. 23 ... Clarion returns to action Wednesday at Edinboro and Saturday at IUP ... Clarion returns home to play Lock Haven Jan. 23 with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.
