CLARION EDGES EDINBORO 77-74

(EDINBORO, PA): Clarion’s inside tandem of Christina Lantz, Heather Cigich and Courtney Willman led the Golden Eagles to a big 77-74 PSAC -West win over Edinboro on Wednesday night. The win was Clarion’s fourth in a row.

The win moves Clarion’s record to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC-West, while Edinboro drops to 8-7 overall and 0-2 in the West.

In the second half the score was tied at 53 with 11:52 remaining when Willman put the Golden Eagles up for good (55-53) with a layup at 11:39. The Eagles outscored Edinboro 12-3 during the next 4:47 to take a commanding 65-56 lead. During the run Cigich scored five points and Willman three.

Edinboro closed to within one point (73-72) on a field foal by Wendy Wiggins with 55-seconds left in the game, but two free throws by Tiffany Taylor and a free throw Cigich gave Clarion a 76-72 lead with 15-seconds remaining and the win.

Cigich had 20 points and 7 rebounds, while making 8 for 8 from the floor. Lantz notched 17 points and Willman 13 points and 7 rebounds. Taylor also posted 15 points.

Suzanne Petruska led Edinboro with 17 points and 7 rebounds, with Megan Zitner posting 13 points and 13 rebounds.

Clarion led 40-36 at halftime.

The Golden Eagles travel to Indiana (IUP) on Saturday.
