CLARION’S FIORILLO NAMED ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA IN VOLLEYBALL

Golden Eagle senior is third-team choice

Clarion University senior setter Kristi Fiorillo (Meadville/Meadville) was named third-team ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-America Wednesday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Fiorillo, who averaged 12.69 assists per game this season (1st in the PSAC, 19th in the nation), carries a 3.93 GPA in Elementary Education. A first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection this year, she is also a Clarion and PSAC “Scholar-Athlete”.

This season, Fiorillo added 350 digs (3.12 per game), 38 service aces, 38 kills and 20 blocks and was an All-PSAC-West second-team selection after helping Clarion to a 28-6 overall record, a 7-3 PSAC-West mark, a second-place finish in the PSAC and an NCAA Division II playoff berth.

She finished her career ranked sixth in school history in assists with 2,852 in just two seasons as the starting setter, and her 842 career digs rank in the Top 20 in school history as well.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – The NCAA playoff berth was Clarion’s second straight and fifth in the past six seasons … The Golden Eagles beat Lees-McRae 3-1 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament for the school’s first NCAA playoff win in volleyball … The second-place PSAC finish was Clarion’s highest since taking second in 1989, and the 28 wins were the third most in school history … Fiorillo is the daughter of Mike and Cindy Fiorillo.
