CLARION RANKED THIRD IN ATLANTIC REGION
The Clarion University women’s volleyball team moved up one spot to third in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll released Oct. 24.
The Golden Eagles (22-4 overall, 5-3 PSAC-West) jumped ahead of Lock Haven after beating the Bald Eagles for the second time this season Oct. 16. Clarion trails California and Edinboro on the poll.
Clarion clinched its first PSAC Playoff berth since 2002 Tuesday when Slippery Rock beat Lock Haven. The Golden Eagles fell 3-0 at California.
The Golden Eagles, who have 20 games for the seventh straight season, return to action Friday when they host Barton in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m. Clarion then closes out the regular season and PSAC-West play with two matches next week. The Golden Eagles are at IUP Tuesday (7 p.m.) and then host Edinboro Nov. 3 (1 p.m.) on Senior Day.
GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – The Regional rankings are used to help determine the participants in the NCAA Division II Tournament (Basically, an automatic qualifier is taken from each of the three conferences in the Atlantic Region – PSAC, Carolinas Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the top five ranked teams not already qualified are then taken) … Clarion has qualified for the NCAA D-II Tournament in four of the past five season including last year
