CLARION’S STEINER BECOMES THIRD PLAYER IN SCHOOL HISTORY WITH

1,000 CAREER KILLS AND 1,000 CAREER DIGS

CLARION – Clarion University senior outside hitter Christina Steiner (Florence, KY/Ryle HS) became the third player in school history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs when she reached the 1,000-dig plateau Saturday.

Going into Tuesday’s PSAC-West match at California, Steiner has 1,224 career kills and 1,028 career digs. She ranks third in school history in kills and 11th in school history in digs.

Steiner joins Melanie Bull (1,926 kills, 2,000 digs from 2000-03) and Sara Heyl (1,026 kills, 1,376 digs from 2001-04) in the exclusive 1,000-kill-1,000-dig club at Clarion.

This season, Steiner, a 2006 PSAC-West second-team selection, leads the PSAC in kills per game (4.57) while adding 3.96 digs per game. She leads the Golden Eagles with 366 kills and is second on the team with 317 digs.

Clarion is 22-3 on the season and was ranked fourth in the Oct. 10 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region ranking – the next ranking is released Oct. 24. The Golden Eagles are also 5-2 in PSAC-West play and tied for second place with Edinboro with the top three teams making the PSAC Playoffs. Clarion’s magic number to clinch a PSAC Playoff berth is one – any combination of one Eagles win and one loss by Lock Haven will qualify Clarion for the PSAC Playoffs for the first time since 2004.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – This is Clarion’s seventh straight 20-win season … The Golden Eagles have qualified for the NCAA Playoffs in four of the past five seasons including last year.
