CLARION’S FIORILLO NAMED PSAC FALL TOP TEN AWARD WINNER

LOCK HAVEN – Clarion University senior volleyball player Kristi Fiorillo (Meadville/Meadville) was recently named a PSAC Top Ten Award winner.

Top Ten Awards, selected by the PSAC’s sports information directors, recognize five female and five male student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom as well as in the arena of competition. The conference designates Top Ten Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter and spring.

Fiorillo earns the award after presenting a near perfect 3.946 grade point average as an elementary education major. Clarion’s setter, she ranked first in the PSAC and 19th nationally in assists per game (12.69) while earning a spot on the All-PSAC West Second Team. Her 1,421 assists this season were the fifth most in school history.

Also selected a Third Team ESPN the Magazine College Division Academic All-America and a PSAC and Clarion “Scholar-Athlete”, Fiorillo led Clarion to three NCAA Division II playoff appearances including this fall’s first NCAA playoff win in school history.

Fiorillo added 350 digs (3.12 per game), 38 service aces, 38 kills and 20 blocks this season while helping Clarion to a 28-6 overall record and a 7-3 PSAC-West mark and a second-place finish in the PSAC, Clarion’s best since 1989. She finished her career with 2,852 career assists, the sixth best mark in school history despite only being the starting setter for two seasons, and her 842 career digs ranks in the Top 20 in school history as well. 

PSAC TOP TEN AWARD NOTES – To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials. Only student-athletes from the fall sports season are eligible for the Fall Top Ten Awards. Those sports are: men’s and women’s soccer, football, field hockey, women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s cross country.

At the end of the academic year, the league announces the Scholar-Athlete Awards, which recognize student-athletes on all PSAC squads with 3.25 cumulative GPAs or better. Top Ten Award winners are eligible for the league's Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, given to one male and one female candidate at the end of the academic year.
