CLARION’S CARTER NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            Clarion University freshman middle hitter Lauren Carter (Altoona/Bellwood-Antis) is the PSAC-West women’s volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending with games Oct. 14.

            Carter helped the Golden Eagles to a 3-1 week including a 3-2 win against California, the No. 1 team in the region. She totaled 54 kills, 20 blocks and 10 service aces while hitting .347 for the week. Her best performance came against the Vulcans when she had 13 kills and a .571 hitting percentage (13-1-21) to go along with five digs, five service aces and two blocks.

            On the season, Carter has 244 kills, 42 service aces, 61 digs and 116 blocks. She is hitting .346.

            After a 3-2 win over IUP Tuesday – a match that saw Carter get 14 more kills and nine blocks – Clarion is 19-9 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC-West this season. The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday at Lock Haven.

            NOTES – Carter is the second Golden Eagle to earn Player of the Week honors this season. Sarah Fries was named Player of the Week Sept. 12 … She is the first Clarion freshman to garner the award since Jackie Hill earned the award twice in 2000.
