CLARION’S KREINER SETS SINGLE SEASON SET ASSIST MARK

            Ashley Kreiner (London, Ohio/London) is the all-time single-season set assist leader at Clarion with 1,590 after recording 46 in a 3-2 loss at Edinboro Saturday.

            Kreiner bests the mark of 1,552 set by Jackie Hill, Clarion all-time career set assist leader, in 2001. Prior to this season, Hill ranked one, two, three in school history in single-season set assists.

            In her first season as a setter, Kreiner, a junior, also ranks sixth all-time at Clarion in set assists with 1,599.

Kreiner has helped the Golden Eagles to a 29-6 overall and 6-4 PSAC-West mark this year that includes Clarion’s first outright PSAC Playoff berth since 1990. The Golden Eagles are also ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll and have a chance to qualify for the NCAA playoffs for the third straight season.

A defensive player her first two seasons, Kreiner also ranks ninth in school history in career digs with 1,071, and her 535 digs last season are the fourth most in school history.

GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES: Clarion plays East Stroudsburg in the opening round of the PSAC Playoffs at 10 a.m. Friday at Lock Haven … If the Golden Eagles win, they will play Shippensburg at 5 p.m. Friday also at Lock Haven in the semifinals … The PSAC Championship Game will be played at 4 p.m. Saturday at Lock Haven … In addition to Clarion, East Stroudsburg and Shippensburg, Lock Haven, IUP and Millersville are also in the postseason tournament … Fourth-year Clarion head coach Tracey Fluharty has led the Golden Eagles to a 109-37 (74.7 percent) including 86-21 (80.4 percent) over the last three years.
