GOLDEN EAGLES TO HOST HOLIDAY INN CLASSIC FRIDAY-SATURDAY

The Clarion University women’s volleyball team will be hosting the six-team Holiday Inn Classic Friday and Saturday.

In addition the Golden Eagles, top Division II teams Wheeling Jesuit and Mt. Olive will join a field that also includes Pfeiffer, Geneva and Lycoming.

"We are excited to be hosting this tournament," Clarion’s third-year head coach Tracey Fluharty said. "We have some top-notch teams coming in, and every game should be a good one. Any team is capable of winning this tournament."

The tournament kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday when Clarion meets Geneva in Pool A play and Wheeling Jesuit takes on Lycoming in Pool B play. At 5:30 p.m. Geneva and Mt. Olive meet in Pool A and Pfeiffer and Wheeling Jesuit play in Pool B. Action finishes off Friday at 7 p.m. when Clarion and Mt. Olive and Pfeiffer and Lycoming play.

Saturday’s schedule starts at 10 a.m. with the second-place team from Pool A playing the third-place team from Pool B and the second-place team from Pool B playing the third-place team in Pool B. At 11:30 a.m. the 2A-3B winner plays the first-place team from Pool A and the 2B-3A winner plays the first-place team from Pool B. The championship match will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Going into action Tuesday night at Slippery Rock Clarion was 15-4 on the season.

Also heading into Tuesday, Wheeling Jesuit was 16-2, Mount Olive 15-4, Pfeiffer 8-6 and Lycoming 12-3.
