CLARION RANKED THIRD IN OCT. 22 ATLANTIC REGION POLL

The Clarion University women’s volleyball team held onto its No. 3 ranking in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll released Oct. 22 for games through Oct. 19.

The Golden Eagles (25-7) are ranked behind fellow PSAC-West members Lock Haven and Edinboro. Clarion lost to Lock Haven 3-0 Tuesday night.

The poll is used to help determine the teams that qualify for the NCAA Division II tournament. Each of the three conferences in the Atlantic Region, the PSAC, the CIAA and the CVAC, receive an automatic bid. The next three highest ranked teams also receive a bid to the tournament,

Last season the Golden Eagles set a school record in wins going 31-5 and were ranked third in the final Atlantic Region poll. They qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time in school history losing 3-2 in the first round to Lees-McRae.

Clarion returns to action Tuesday when it travels to California for a key PSAC-West match. The Golden Eagles are currently tied for third in the West with IUP with the top three teams making the PSAC Playoffs. Both teams have three conference matches remaining.
