CLARION’S HILL, BULL & SHERK NAMED AVCA ALL-ATLANTIC REGION

Three Clarion University women’s volleyball players have been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Atlantic Region team.

The players are senior setter Jackie Hill, senior outside hitter Melanie Bull, and junior middle hitter Colleen Sherk.

"This is a great accomplishment for all three players," Clarion’s third-year head coach Tracey Fluharty said. "All three of them have worked very hard to achieve this honor."

Hill finished her career as the top setter in Golden Eagle history and one of the top all-around players to play for Clarion.

She holds the school record for career set assists (5,846) nearly doubling the No. 2 person on the list (Wendy Ellenberger - 2,990). She also sits one through three on the single-season set assist lists having set the school record with 1,552 in 2001. She added 1,461 in 2002 and 1,425 this season. She is also fifth on the single-season list with 1,408 in 2000. Jackie also is second all-time in career digs with 1,460 and seventh in school history in both blocks (319) and service aces (159). This season, Hill added 75 kills, 377 digs and 84 blocks.

Bull ended her Golden Eagle career as one of the most prolific offensive and defensive players in school history. She holds school career and season records in both kills and digs finishing her four-year tenure with 1,926 kills and 2,000 digs. Her 584 kills this season broke her own school record of 548, which she set in 2002. She also has the fourth most kills in a single season with 461 in 2001. Melanie also set the single-season digs mark in 2001 with 602 while also sitting second on the list with 577 in 2002 and fifth on the list with 523 this season. Bull’s 187 service aces are the third most in school history. In addition to her kills and digs this year she added 47 service aces and 59 blocks.

Sherk had a breakout season for the Golden Eagles with 435 kills, 113 digs and 157 blocks. The 435 kills are tied for the seventh most in a season in school history, while the 157 blocks are ninth most in a season in school history. In her three-year career she has 699 kills, 310 blocks and 205 digs.
