CLARION WINS HAVERFORD GOLD DIVISION WITH 5-0 RECORD

HAVERFORD, PA. – Behind the school-record setting performance of Jackie Hill, the Clarion University women’s volleyball team won the Gold Division of the Haverford College Tournament this past weekend (AUG.31 - SEPT-1).

The Golden Eagles (5-0) finished the tournament 5-0 and did not lose a set going 15-0 on the weekend.

Hill, meanwhile, became Clarion’s all-time career set assists leader. With 141 set assists during the weekend, Hill now has 3,074. Wendy Ellenberger (1989-92) held the previous school mark with 2,990.

Other key performers for the Golden Eagles in the tournament were Melanie Bull (58 kills, 42 digs), Beth Stalder (42 kills, 13 blocks) and Tonya Zatko (41 kills).

Clarion started the tournament Saturday going 3-0 with victories over SUNY-Brockport (30-20, 30-18, 30-20), Gallaudet from Washington, D.C., (30-18, 30-20, 30-15) and host Haverford (30-28, 30-20, 30-23).

On Sunday Clarion sewed up the Gold Division title with wins over Pitt-Johnstown (30-20, 30-19, 30-15) and the University of Michigan-Dearborn (30-15, 30-25, 30-19).

Clarion returns to action Sept. 6-7 at the Pitt-Bradford Tournament
