CLARION WOMEN 7TH/MEN 9TH AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
ERIN RICHARD WINS 3,000 & 5,000 METER RACES
(Shippensburg): Erin Richard (Jr. Erie/McDowell) led the Golden Eagle Women’s Track team to a seventh place team finish at the PSAC Championships today as she won both the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter races.
Richard won the 3,000 meters breaking her own Clarion record with a time of 9:56.68, plus won the 5,000 meter race with a time of 17:15.21. She won the 5,000 meter race by 20-seconds over the nearest competitor and broke her 3,000 record which was 9:59.56.
Also earning points for the Golden Eagles on Saturday were Tasha Wheatley (Sr. Saltsburg/Kiski Area), Jamie Maloney (Fr. York/Dallastown), and Diane Kress (So. Pgh. – North Hills).
Wheatley placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:13.34, plus was 5th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:28.69.
Maloney placed 7th in the 400 hurdles (1:04.04) and was 8th in the 100 hurdles (15.47), while Kress contributed a 5th place in the triple jump with a mark of 11.17 meters.
Clarion’s women scored 53 points and finished in seventh place. Slippery Rock won the women’s title with 189.5 points.
On the men’s side the Golden Eagles had three place winners on Saturday including Frank Ehrensberger (Fr. St. Marys/ECC), BJ Roth (Jr. Clarion) and the 4 X 400 relay team.
Ehrensberger was 3rd in the 400 with a time of 48.90, Roth placed 6th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.34 and the 4 X 400 relay was 7th with a time of 3:18.97. Running in the relay were Mark Simbeck (Jr. St. Marys/ECC), Dan Patton (Sr. Clarion), Roth and Ehrensberger.
Clarion’s men finished in ninth place with 21 points. Lock Haven won the men’s meet edging Shippensburg by a point, 139-138.
TRACK NOTES: For Erin Richard, her two PSAC titles now give her 7 in her career at Clarion … She won the 1,500 and 3,000 at the outdoor PSAC’s last year, won the 3,000 and the Distance Medley Relay at the 2006 indoor PSAC’s, and in 2007 she won the mile at the indoor PSAC’s.
