CLARION TRACK TEAMS COMPETE AT CAL TRACK CARNIVAL

CALIFORNIA – The Clarion University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Cal Track Carnival Saturday in California.

The women’s team had five first-place finishers, while the men’s team had three first-place endings.

For the women’s squad, Chinoyelum Nwokedi was won the shot put (40-2) while finishing fourth in the 100 (12.96) and sixth in the 200 (27.18). Diane Kress took home top honors in the triple jump (37-1 ¼) and was third in the 100 hurdles (16.57), while Jamie Maloney won the 100 hurdles (16.02) and was second in the 400 hurdles (1:08.16). Amy Kirkwood was the winner in the high jump (5-1), Autumn Shaffer won the 3,000 steeple chase (13:02.47) and Ann Stitson had the top javelin throw (129-05).

Additional top competitors for the Golden Eagle won included Andrea Strickenberger taking second in the 100 hurdles (16.32) and eighth in the 200 (28.34), Caitlin Palko finishing second in the 1,500 (5:19.73) and third in the 3,000 (11:23.19), Kate Ehrensberger third taking third in the 800 (2:18.68), Norika Francis-Meger finishing third in the javelin (115-10), Sarah Skellie throwing a second-place finish in the discus (104-9) and Sarah Elder coming away with second in the javelin (117-05).

Winning individual events for the men’s team were Frank Ehrensberger in the 400 (49.46) and BJ Roth in the 400 hurdles (55.34), while the 4x400 relay team has took home top honors with a time of 3:21.02.

Additional top performances for the Golden Eagle men came from Dan Patton in the 400 (2nd; 49.71), Josh Foulds in the 3,000 steeple chase (2nd; 9:58.33), Dan King in the triple jump (2nd; 43-7), Andy Herbstritt in the shot put (3rd; 43-3) and Cody Summerville in the javelin (3rd; 181-05).

Clarion returns to action Saturday at Baldwin-Wallace, although Erin Richard and Tasha Wheatley will run in the Penn Relays Thursday.
