RICHARD CONTINUES SOLID JUNIOR SEASON WITH TWO MORE WINS FOR CLARION WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD TEAM
SLIPPERY ROCK – Erin Richard (Erie/McDowell) continued a solid junior season by winning two events at the Slippery Rock Invitational Saturday.
Richard, who earned All-America honors during the indoor season in the 5,000 after winning the PSAC indoor title in the Mile, won the 1,500 and 3,000 at Slippery Rock making it three-for-three in first-place finishes during the outdoor season. She took home top honors in the 1,500 in a time of 4:47.05, while she won the 3,000 in a time of 10:06.37.
Led by Richard, Clarion had a lot of success in the distances races with senior Tasha Wheatley (Saltsburg/Kiski Area) taking second in the 3,000 (10:35.6) and third in the 1,500 (4:54.92) and sophomore Caitlin Palko (Pittsburgh/North Hills) finishing fourth in the 5,000 (18:56.78).
Sophomore Diane Kress (Pittsburgh/North Hills) was fourth in the triple jump (10.75 meters), while freshman Jamie Maloney (York/Dallastown) added two 10th place endings for Clarion (200, 27.76; 100 hurdles, 16.41). Freshman Amy Kirkwood (Annville/Annville-Cleona) tied for the eighth in the high jump (1.5 meters), and Clarion also had three freshmen get top 10 finishers in the javelin: Sarah Elder (Volant/Wilmington; 7th, 33.7 meters), Norika Francis-Merger (Searsport, Maine/Hampden Academy, 8th 33.3 meters) and Ann Stinson (New Castle/Shenango; 9th, 33.18 meters).
EHRENSBERGER, HERRMANN SECOND PLACE FINISHES PACES EAGLES MEN
Frank Ehrensberger and Bill Herrmann each had second-place finished to pace the Clarion men’s track and field team at Slippery Rock Saturday.
Ehrensberger, a freshman from St. Marys and Elk County Catholic High School, took second in the 200 in a time of 22.95, while Herrmann, a junior from Centereach, NY, and Newfield High, was second in the mixed 10,000 in a time of 32:42.26.
Junior BJ Roth (Clarion/Clarion) was fifth in the 400 hurdles (56.53), while junior Cody Summerville (Knox/Keystone) was ninth in the javelin (55.43 meters). Freshman Josh Foulds (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) was 10th in the 3,000 steeple chase (10:18.33).
Keystone graduate Cody Shaner (Knox) was 16th in the 2000 (24.31) and 21st in the 100 (11.77).
