FOUR CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHT CLARION SUCCESS AT EAST STROUDSBURG

EAST STROUDSBURG – The Clarion University men’s and women’s track and field teams had a solid weekend at the DeShriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg with both teams claiming two championships including the Distance Medley Relay teams.

The men’s DMR of Travis Cyphert, BJ Roth, Frank Ehrensberger and Bill Herrmann won in a time of 10:48.38, while the women’s DMR of Suzanne Schwerer, Lisa Nickel, Kate Ehrensberger and Tasha Wheatley took home top honors in a time of 13:13.62.

Dan Patton also won the 200-meter dash for the men’s team in a time of 22.77, while Diane Kress took home top honors in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 36-feet, 5-inches.

The championships weren’t the only positives for the Golden Eagles.

In men’s action, the 4x400 relay tea of Frank Ehrensberger, Mark Simbeck, Patton and Roth took second in a school-record time of 3:23.29, while Dan King set the school record in the high jump with a leap of 6-4. King was also fifth in the triple jump (42-6 ¼) and ninth in the long jump (21-0 ¾).

For the women’s team, ChiChi Nwokedi qualified for the PSAC meet in the 55-meter dash taking 16th in a time of 7.76 while also taking 12th in the long jump (15-11 ½). Kate Ehrensberger, meanwhile, was fifth in the 800 in a PSAC qualifying time of 2:24.74.

Additional local athletes running for Clarion included Ben Bevevino of Clarion taking eighth in the long jump (21-00 ¾) and Andrea Strickenberger of North Clarion finishing 16th in the 55 hurdles (9.73) and 25th in the 200 (29.47).
