WHEATLEY'S NCAA PROVISIONAL QUALIFYING TIME LEADS CLARION AT MT. SAC RELAYS

WALNUT, Calif. – Led by Tasha Wheatley’s NCAA Division II provisional qualifying run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Clarion University had four athletes run well at the Mt. San Antonio Community College (Mt. SAC) Relays Thursday in Walnut, Calif.

 Wheatley’s time of 11:26.03, a top 20 time nationally and the second fastest time in the PSAC this season. She finished 21^st in the race but second among NCAA Division II runners. The remainder of the runners ahead of her were either from Division I schools or club teams.   

 Wheatley wasn’t the only Golden Eagle to have an outstanding race Thursday, as junior Holly Urban (Doylestown/Central Bucks East) ran the fastest time in the PSAC this is year in the 800 (2:16.26). She finished 28^th but like Wheatley was mainly behind Division I runners.

 Also competing for Clarion against mainly Division I competition were Erin Richard (Erie/McDowell) and Chris Clark (Hadley/Commodore Perry).

 Richard finished 21^st in the women’s 5,000 in a time of 19:03.99, while Clark was 18^th in the men’s 5,000 in a time of 15:55.06.

 The Golden Eagles continue their California trip Friday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and Saturday at the Soka University Twilight Invitational.
