THREE GOLDEN EAGLES QUALIFY FOR NCAA D-II TRACK & FIELD MEET
Three Clarion University women’s track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Meet being held May 22-24 at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 25 miles outside of St. Louis.
Juniors Julie Evenoski (New Castle/Neshannock) and Carrie Bullman (Chicora/Karns City) will compete in the javelin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, while sophomore Melissa Terwilliger (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) will compete in the 10,000-meter run at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Evenoski placed second at the PSAC meet May 8-10 with a throw of 143-10, which tied the school record set by Bullman earlier in the year. She is seeded 11th at the NCAA meet.
A 2002 NCAA qualifier in the javelin, Evenoski placed third in the event at the 2002 PSAC ‘s while finishing fifth in the shot put. This season she once again place fifth at the PSAC’s in the shot put. She was also a 2001 PSAC qualifier in both the shot put and the javelin.
A Clarion and PSAC "Scholar Athlete", Evenoski is an Elementary/Early Childhood Education major and is the daughter of David and Lou Ellen Evenoski.
Bullman finished third at the PSAC meet with a throw of 143-2, and threw a school-record 143-10 earlier in the season at Shippensburg. She is seeded 12th at the NCAA meet.
A 2002 NCAA qualifier in the javelin, she finished 12th at the NCAA’s last season after taking second at the PSAC’s.
A Clarion and PSAC "Scholar Athlete", Bullman is a Secondary Education/Social Studies major and the daughter of Don Bullman and Sherry Bullman.
Terwilliger is coming off third place finishes in both the 3,000 (10:24.15) and the 5,000 (17:46.42) at the PSAC meet while setting school records in both events. Her top 10,000-meter time this year is a school-record 36:39.71, which seeds her 11th at the NCAA meet.
Last season, Terwilliger finished fourth at the PSAC’s in the 10,000.
An outstanding cross country runner as well, Terwilliger earned All-PSAC and All-Region honors in the sport this past fall finishing sixth at the PSAC meet and eighth at the NCAA Regional meet while helping Clarion to a third-place PSAC finish and a second-place NCAA Regional finish. The Golden Eagles qualified for the NCAA national meet for the first time in school history and finished 20th with Terwilliger finishing 78th.
A Clarion and PSAC "Scholar Athlete" as well as a USCTA Scholar Athlete, Terwilliger is an Environmental Biology major and is the daughter of Donald and Elaine Terwilliger.
