HILL SETS ASSIST RECORD/BULL DIGS RECORD
CLARION SOPHOMORES SET SINGLE SEASON RECORDS

Two Clarion University women’s volleyball players, who were also high school teammates, earned spots at the top of the school’s single-season record book last week.

Sophomore setter Jackie Hill and sophomore outside hitter Melanie Bull, who both graduated from Susquehannock High School in June 2000, each set single-season records one day apart.

Bull was the first to reach a single-season milestone setting Clarion’s single-season digs record when she dug ball 527 in a 3-1 loss to IUP Thursday. With her 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Shippensburg Friday, Bull now has 542 digs this season. The previous record for digs in a season was 526 set by Tammi Bills in 1992. For her career Bull has 840 digs, the eighth most in school history.

One day after Bull reached her milestone, Hill entered Clarion’s single-season record book when she notched her 1,414 set assist in the 3-0 win over Shippensburg. Hill, who had 47 assists against the Lady Raiders, now has 1,421 set assists this season. Karen Banks, who had 1,413 set assists in 1984, had previously held the record. For her career Hill is third all-time in
school history with 2,829 assists, 161 behind the school’s all-time leader Wendy Ellenberger who had 2,990 from 1989-92.

Bull and Hill have been two key contributors to Clarion’s 22-14 season that includes a No. 3 ranking in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll. In addition to her 1,421 set assists, Hill has also contributed 383 digs, 80 kills, 37 service aces and 67 blocks. Bull, meanwhile, leads the team with 421 kills to go along with 38 service aces and 33 digs.

While at Susquehannock Bull and Hill helped the Warriors to an undefeated senior season and the PIAA Class AAA championship.

Bull, who resides in York, is the daughter of Charles Bull and Mary Yaunger, while Hill, who resides in Stewartstown, is the daughter of Bob Hill and Carol Hill.
