Rombach & Baumgartner All-Conference
                    Clarion’s Corin Rombach Named PSAC-West “Rookie of the Year” In Women’s Tennis
        Clarion freshman Corin Rombach (Fr. Prattsburgh, N.Y.) was named by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division as the “Rookie of the Year” in Women’s Tennis. The voting was done by the division coaches.
        Rombach was also named to the All PSAC-West first team along with teammate Lisa Baumgartner (Fr. West Middlesex - Wilmington).
        Rombach, a freshman, put together a singles record for the Fall and Spring seasons of 9-6, along with a doubles record of 5-6, also at the #1 spot. At the PSAC individual championships she won her first match (6-0, 6-0) against Jess Foltin of West Chester, then lost in the second round to #1 seed Ashley Michaux of Slippery Rock (6-4, 6-1). Rombach, a co-captain and Physics major at Clarion, is the daughter of Dave and Karen Rombach of Prattsburgh, New York. Corin is a Clarion Scholar-Athlete.
        “These honors cap a very good season overall,” said Clarion Women’s Tennis Coach Lori Sabatose. “Cori’s record was great for a freshman, especially at the #1 singles position. She definitely deserved this award and we congratulate her on a strong season.”
        Baumgartner, also a freshman, played #4, 5 and 6 singles in 2005 and posted a 13-1 record, while also posting a 7-2 doubles mark at #1 and #3. Baumgartner, a Communication Sciences and Disorders major, is the daughter of John and Marsha Baumgartner of West Middlesex. She is a Clarion Scholar Athlete.
        “Lisa is a very determined player on the court who is very quick and has very consistent ground strokes,” said Sabatose. “She had an incredible record single game record of 177-24 this season. That’s simply amazing”.
        CLARION NOTES: Clarion’s women’s tennis team had an overall record of 10-4 and a 1-3 mark in the PSAC-Western Division... Sabatose finished her 5th year as head coach... Her 2004 team was 10-10 overall and the 2003 squad was 9-6 overall and 5th at the PSAC’s ... She has been head coach in 1999, 2000, and from 2003-2005... Other first team PSAC-West honorees include Melissa Anderson (cal), Linda Escobedo (Cal), Olga Gonzalez (Cal), Ashley Michaux (SR), Yvonne Niederbracht (Indiana), Lina Pavilionyte (Shippensburg) ... Michaux was the “Player of the Year”, and Cal coach Pablo Montana was the “Coach of the Year”.
