LORI SABATOSE - Women's Tennis Coach

Lori Berk Sabatose, a former tennis star at Clarion, is in her fifth year as head tennis coach. She has led the Eagles 1998-99 and 1999-2000, assistant coach in 2000-01, and after a year away from the program, returned to lead the Eagle netters in 2002-03.

Sabatose was named the 2004 USTA Allegheny Mountain District College ACoach of the Year@.

Last year=s team was 10-10 overall, while the 2002-2003 team was 9-6 overall, 7-3 in the Spring and finished 5th at the PSAC=s. Lori also led Clarion to a 5th place finish at the Fall PSAC=s in 1998 and a 6th place finish in 1999.

A 4-year starter at Clarion University, Lori played from 1988-91 and led the Golden Eagles to 3 PSAC team titles (1988-90) and an incredible 47-2 dual meet record during her career. Clarion participated in the NCAA Div.II Nationals in the Spring of 1989.

She posted a career singles slate of 51-7 and won the PSAC #6 singles title in 1989 and  #5 singles in 1990. Co-captain of the 1991 team, she notched a 12-1 singles record at #2 and placed second at PSAC's. In doubles she was 53-11, while winning the PSAC #2 doubles crown in 1989 and 1990.

A native of Williamsville, N.Y. and a 1988 Williamsville South H.S. grad, Lori was 4th in N.Y. State doubles her senior year, earned 4 letters in tennis, 3 in soccer and 1 in basketball.

After graduating from Clarion in 1992 with a degree in Business Administration, she attained a Masters Degree in Sports Administration from Kent State in 1993.

Currently the Rec Center Director at Clarion University, she has continued her tennis career. Lori was ranked in the top 5 USTA Middle States Adult singles from 1993-97, and attended the United states Professional Tennis Registry founded by Dennis Van Der Mer in 1999 and is a certified tennis professional.

Ranked by Middle States in singles, doubles and mixed doubles from 1998-2002, Sabatose won the Hampton Inn mixed doubles crown in 2002 at the Blair Racket Club in Altoona, as well as the St. Mary=s and Clarion Open doubles titles in 2004.

Married to Chuck Sabatose, the couple have a son Adam and a daughter Gabrielle and reside in Brockport.
