CLARION MEN & WOMEN THIRD AT PSAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

            (Mechanicsburg, Pa.): Clarion University’s Men’s and Women’s Swimming teams were third at the PSAC Championships after one event held on Thursday night at Cumberland Valley High School.

            In men’s action at the 49th PSAC Swimming Championship, Shippensburg jumped out to the team lead with 56 points, West Chester was second with 38, Clarion third with 28, Kutztown fourth with 20, Edinboro fifth with 10, Bloomsburg sixth with 2 and IUP seventh with 1 point.

            In the 32nd PSAC Championship for Women’s Swimming, West Chester jumped out to a big lead with 69 points, IUP was second with 27, defending champion Clarion is third with 25, Bloomsburg is fourth with 21, Shippensburg is fifth with 11 and Edinboro sixth with 2 points.

            Shippensburg’s Mike Owen won the 1000 freestyle for men on Thursday with a time of 9:31.92. Clarion’s Drew Soisson was fourth with a time of 9:46.15, while teammate Dustin Fedunok was sixth with a time of 10:13.84.

            In the women’s 1000 freestyle West Chester’s Katie Brosseau won the event with a time of 10:22.86, while Clarion had three placewinners. Stevie Coble was third with a time of 10:38.90, Katie Kuntz was 12th with a 10:54.16 clocking and Margaret Bentley was 13th with a time of 10:54.94.

            The men’s and women’s championships get underway in earnest on Friday as both have five events ready to be challenged. Seven events will be contested on Saturday and the championship will close on Sunday with 6 events for both the men and women.
