WOLF & GRIMM SELECTED TO PSAC WINTER “TOP TEN”AWARD
Clarion record setting diver Jamie Wolf (Sr. South Park) and junior women’s basketball standout Ashley Grimm (Jr. Sugarloaf/Hazleton) were named today to the PSAC’s (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Winter Top Ten Award.
Voted on by the league’s Sports Information Directors, the PSAC Top Ten awards recognize student athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena of competition. Only two student athletes can be nominated from each member school, student athletes must have a minimum cumulative QPA of 3.25 and must be a starter or key reserve on a PSAC athletic team. The PSAC honors a total of ten student athletes (5 male, 5 female) following each of its three seasons (Fall, Winter & Spring). The Winter Top Ten awards included the sports of wrestling, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s indoor track and field.
The 2007 PSAC Women’s Winter Top Ten included Wolf, Grimm, Katie Glaws (IUP), Katie Kline (West Chester) and Andi Rose (Slippery Rock). The men’s award winners were Alex Clemsen (Edinboro), Jamir Gates (Cheyney), Seth Martin (Lock Haven), Brad Rager (Cal) and Sean Strauman (IUP).
Jamie Wolf is a senior diver at Clarion and has a 4.0 QPA in Molecular Biology. Wolf was the 2007 NCAA Division II Female “Diver of the Year” after winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events at nationals. She set a new NCAA D-II 1 meter diving record in the process with 453.75 points. She also helped lead the Golden Eagle Women’s Swimming and Diving team to an 8th place finish at the D-II Nationals. In her career she set a new NCAA D-II record by winning 7 national championships in 8 tries (the old record was 4). Her only non-winning place was a second place finish on 1 meter in 2006. She was the D-II “Diver of the Year” in 2004, 05 and 07, and Clarion University’s Female “Athlete of the Year” in 2005 and 2006. This is also the third time Wolf has been named to the Winter Academic Top Ten in the PSAC (2005, 06, 07). Jamie is the daughter of Patrick and Patricia Wolf of South Park.
Grimm, a junior point guard on the Women’s Basketball team at Clarion, is a 3.92 QPA while studying Biology/Pre-Dentistry. A three-year starter at Clarion, Grimm led the PSAC in assists in 2007 with 137 and finished 24th in the NCAA D-II final stats averaging 5.27 assists per game. She averaged 6.8ppg, led the team with 51 steals and shot 76% from the free throw line in the 2007 season. Clarion was 9-17 overall this year and 4-8 in the PSAC-West. She averaged 8.1ppg, dished out 136 assists and made 53 steals in 2006 when the Golden Eagles were 12-15 overall and 3-9 in the Western Division. As a freshman she helped Clarion to a 23-7 overall record, a 10-2 record in the PSAC-West and an NCAA Playoff berth. Grimm added 5.7ppg, 125 assists, and 60 steals that season. Overall Grimm has scored 568 points, handed out 398 assists and made 164 steals. She is only 72 assists shy of the Clarion career record for assists of 470 by Shelly Respecki (1991-92). Ashley is the daughter of Richard and Jane Grimm.
