CLARION’S SHANNON PSAC-WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Third time this season sophomore has garnered award

            For the third time in five weeks, Clarion sophomore pitcher April Shannon (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) is the PSAC-West Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 10.

            Shannon, who has won the award in each of the three weeks she has pitched in this season, went 6-2 last week with a 0.93 ERA. In 60 innings of work, opponents hit just .209 against her and she recorded 69 strikeouts. Even in her two loses, she was sensational allowing just four earned runs while Clarion’s offense failed to score a run in either game.

            Top performances during the week included two extra innings wins, three double-digit strikeout games and five games where she allowed three hits or less. Shannon also performed strong offensively, knocking out five hits, a home run and three RBI’s.

            On the season, Shannon is a 9-4 with an incredible 0.64 ERA, which is second in the PSAC among pitcher with 100 or more innings pitched. In 105 innings of work, she has allowed 14 runs, 10 of them earned, while striking out 131, also second in the PSAC this season. Opponents are hitting .169 off her this season.

            Through April 4, Shannon ranked 14th in the nation in strikeouts per game (9.6).

            Behind Shannon’s pitching, Clarion is 12-8 overall and 8-4 in the PSAC-West this season. The Golden Eagles are currently in second place in the PSAC-West a game behind California (9-3 PSAC-West) and a full game up on Lock Haven (6-4) although Lock Haven and Clarion are tied in the loss column for second place. Clarion finishes its PSAC-West slate with four games against California and four against Lock Haven. The top two teams in the PSAC-West advance to the PSAC playoffs.
