CLARION’S SHANNON NAMED PSAC-WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK

For the second time in three weeks, Clarion University sophomore pitcher April Shannon (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) is the PSAC-West Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Shannon pitched in both of Clarion’s games this week going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. She pitched 10 innings and allowed just five hits while striking out 15 of the 38 batters she faced. In a 2-0 win over Slippery Rock Saturday she pitched a complete-game shutout allowing three hits and two walks while striking out 11. She came on in relief in game two against the Rock and worked out of a bases loaded jam before going on to pitch two more scoreless innings. In the process, she lowered her season ERA to 0.31.

On the year, Shannon is 3-2 with one save while helping the Golden Eagles to a 5-5 start. She has pitched 45 innings and has allowed just 17 hits and 15 walks while striking out 62. Opponents are hitting .113 (17 of 151) of her, and she has allowed only four extra base hits. Shannon is also batting .250 (3-for-12) with a double and an RBI.

The PSAC-West Rookie of the Year last season, she was also named first team PSAC-West pitcher and second team NFPCA All-Region pitcher.
