CLARION’S SHANNON NAMED PSAC-WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK |

Clarion University sophomore pitcher April Shannon (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) is the first PSAC-West Pitcher of the Week for the 2004 season. Shannon helped the Golden Eagles go 4-4 on their West Coast Spring Training trip to Tucson, Ariz., last week. Appearing in all eight games for the Golden Eagles, Shannon went 2-2 with a save and had a 0.40 ERA. She pitched in 35 innings and allowed just two earned runs and 12 hits while striking out 47. She threw a non-hitter and struck out 10 in a 4-1 win over Wilmington and allowed two hits with 11 strikeouts against Peru College. She also came out in relief for 4.1 innings to strike out five against Jamestown College. Last season, Shannon was the PSAC-West “Rookie of the Year”, a PSAC-West first-team all-conference pitcher and a second-team NFPCA second-team All-Region pitcher for the Golden Eagles. Clarion is next in action this weekend with a doubleheader Friday at West Virginia Wesleyan and then at the West Liberty State Tournament Saturday and Sunday. All games are subject to weather permitting.
