GOLDEN EAGLES SHANNON NAMED PSAC-WEST PITCHER OF THE WEEK

April Shannon (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls), a freshman pitcher on the Clarion University softball team, is the PSAC-West Pitcher of the Week for the week ending with games on Sunday, April 6.

Shannon had a top-shelf week for the Golden Eagles going 2-1 with a 0.32 ERA over a three-game span. She threw 22 innings allowing just one earned run, nine hits and five walks. She registered 15 and 10 strikeouts in shutout wins against Edinboro and IUP respectively and accumulated 33 strikeouts during the stretch.

Against Edinboro April 2, Shannon tossed a no-hitter and came within one batter of throwing a perfect game yielding one walk.

On the season, Shannon has been Clarion’s top pitcher through 21 games while helping the Golden Eagles to a 10-10-1 record including a 4-2 PSAC-West mark going into Wednesday’s doubleheader with California. She had pitched in 11 games with eight starts, seven complete games and two shutouts while posting a 4-4 record with a 1.14 ERA. She had struck out 91 and walked 36 in 67.2 innings of work while holding opponents to a .135 batting average.
