GOLDEN EAGLES’ KLINGER NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clarion University sophomore shortstop Kristin Klinger (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) is the PSAC-West Player of the Week for the week ending April 19.
Klinger helped Clarion to a 2-2 week by hitting .538 with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBI’s. She had a .692 slugging percentage and a .538 on-base percentage.
In a doubleheader split with IUP Wednesday she was a combined 5-for-6 with one double and two RBI’s. Then in a double-header split with Edinboro Friday she combined to go 2-for-7 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI.
Through Monday’s doubleheader sweep of Slippery Rock, Klinger leads Clarion with a .352 average, which ties for 12th best in the PSAC. She had added a team-leading 15 runs scored to go with three double and nine RBI’s, while helping Clarion to a 15-17-1 overall record and a 9-7 PSAC-West slate. The 15 wins are the most by a Clarion team since the 1982 team went 19-9, and the nine PSAC-West wins are the most for the Golden Eagles since the conference went to a 20-game schedule in 1995.
Clarion, which still has an outside shot at a PSAC playoff berth, finishes its regular season this week when it travels to California Thursday and hosts Lock Haven Saturday. Clarion is currently two games behind IUP for the second place in the PSAC-West with the top two teams making the PSAC playoffs. Clarion has the four games left, while IUP has six games remaining.
