CLARION’S SHERRY NAMED PSAC-WEST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
LOCK HAVEN – For the third time this season, Clarion University freshman Mike Sherry (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) is the PSAC-West Rookie of the Week.
Sherry was Clarion’s leading scorer in both of the Golden Eagles PSAC-West contests last week averaging 15.0 ppg and 2.0 rpg. He hit on 46.2 percent of his shots (12 of 26) including 6 of 17 3-pointers while also scoring 11 straight Golden Eagle points vs. IUP Wednesday. He had a team-high 16 points in the game vs. IUP and followed up with a team-high 14 points vs. Cal Saturday.
On the season, Sherry is Clarion’s leading scorer at 11.9 ppg while also hitting a team-high 37 3-pointers. His 178 points are already the most by a freshman at Clarion since Terrance Vaughns had 301 and Shamar Green 248 in 2003.
Clarion (8-8 overall, 0-2 PSAC-West) has its PSAC-West home opener Wednesday when it hosts Lock Haven at 8 p.m. The game can be heard on WCUC-FM, 91.7, in Clarion and on the internet at www.redzonemedia.com.
NOTES – Sherry was also Rookie of the Week Dec. 4 and Dec. 10. He is the first Golden Eagles to be Rookie of the Week three times since Vaughns earned the honor three times in 2003.
