CLARION’S KENNEDY NAMED PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK

            Leon Kennedy, Clarion University’s senior guard, is the PSAC-West Player of the Week for the week ending with games Feb. 10.

            Kennedy (Detroit, Mich./Northwestern) was key force in a 2-0 week that put Clarion back in the hunt for a PSAC playoff spot. He averaged 20.0 points per game while shooting 57.1 percent (12 of 21) from the floor and 85.7 percent (12 of 14) from the free-throw line. His best effort came in Clarion’s 64-63 win over Shippensburg Saturday which included his game-winning 3-pointer with 32 seconds remaining in overtime. He totaled 25 points in the game hitting 8 of 12 from the field and all seven of his free throws. He added 15 points in Clarion’s 62-60 win at IUP Wednesday.

            On the season, Kennedy is averaging 15.3 ppg, which ranks ninth in the PSAC. He also is third in the PSAC in steals with 2.59 per game.  

            Clarion (9-13 overall, 4-5 PSAC-West) returns to action at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday) when it hosts Penn State-DuBois. The Golden Eagles then host Lock Haven in a key PSAC-West game at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Clarion and Lock Haven are tied for fourth place in the PSAC-West with the top four teams moving on to the PSAC Playoffs. The winner would control its own destiny.
