CHEYNEY KNOCKS OFF GOLDEN EAGLES IN OVERTIME

CLARION – Cheyney outscored Clarion 9-6 in overtime to get a 64-61 win over the Golden Eagles in PSAC Crossover action Tuesday afternoon at Clarion’s Tippin Gym.

 

The Wolves (3-5) trailed by as many as 15 points in the first half and by six with less than seven minutes to play but rallied to force overtime by outscoring Clarion (5-3) 8-2 over the final 5:19. Cheyney actually had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Ed Braswell’s shot at the horn was no good.

 

Cheyney then scored the first five points of overtime to take control of the extra period and ultimately the game.

 

Clarion was hot to start the game jumping out to an 23-8 lead, but Cheyney closed the deficit to 32-25 at halftime before tying the contest five minutes into the second half.

 

Leon Kennedy was the lone Clarion player in double figures with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Chris Buchanan added nine points and eight boards. Justin Collins and Bobby Franklin each chipped in with eight tallies.

 

Edwin Braswell and Dawud Morris each had 14 for Cheyney with Morris adding eight rebounds. Michael Fryer added 13 points, Robert Simpson 12 points and seven rebounds and Dominique Curry 11 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Cheyney was 17 of 24 from the free-throw line, while Clarion was 8 of 11.

 

Clarion is now off until Jan. 3 when it hosts Wayne State at 7 p.m.

 

NOTES – The game started 1 hour, 25 minutes late because the officials were late.
