EAGLES USE 27-0 RUN TO FLY PAST PENN STATE-MCKEESPORT

CLARION – The Clarion men’s basketball team used a 27-0 first-half run to build a 45-12 halftime lead on its way to a 93-37 win over visiting Penn State-McKeesport Sunday night at Tippin Gym.

The 37 points allowed ties the school record with two other games for the fewest points allowed in school history. In 1983-84 Clarion beat IUP 43-37 and in 2002-03 the Eagles toppled Davis & Elkins 80-37.

The game was tied 2-2 in the early going before the Golden Eagles (5-2) scored the next 12 baskets to go ahead 29-2.

Clarion then held the Nittany Lions without a basket for the first four-plus minutes of the second half while building a 40-point lead – 52-12.

Only a pair of three points under the four-minute mark kept Clarion from holding PSU-McKeesport to under 30 points in contest. The Golden Eagles led 76-25 with 5:30 to play.

Ten of the 12 Clarion players who saw minutes in the game scored including four in double figures.

Chris Buchanan once again led the way with 18 points and 15 rebounds, his second straight double-double. Josh Yanke added 16 points, nine rebounds off the bench, while Leon Kennedy had 14 points and Bobby Franklin 11 points and four assists.
