GOLDEN EAGLES RUN PAST BRIARCLIFFE
CLARION – The Clarion men’s basketball team built an 18-0 lead and never looked back on its way to an 91-44 win over visiting Briarcliffe Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (4-2) led 43-16 and then outscored the Seahawks (5-7) 48-28 in the second half to cruise to the win.
Four Clarion players scored in double figures led by 15 points, 11 rebounds from Chris Buchanan. Frank Torbert and Lamar Richburg each added 12 points off the bench with Richburg also getting eight rebounds and three steals and Torbert picking up three steals. Justin Collins chipped in with 10 points for Clarion, which scored 34 points off of 31 Briarcliffe turnovers. Bobby Franklin added six points, six assists and six steals, while Demetrius Graham had six assists and a steal.
Stanley Shorter paced Briarcliffe with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
It was Clarion’ second win this season over the Seahawks, as the Golden Eagles opened the season with a 78-47 win at Briarcliffe, which is located in Bethpage, NY.
