BALANCED EFFORT LEADS CLARION PAST PSU-BEAVER
Henderson records 17 rebounds; T-8th most at Clarion since 1980
CLARION – Twelve different players scored including three in double digits to lead Clarion to a 91-49 win over visiting Penn State-Beaver in non-conference men’s basketball action Wednesday night at Tippin Gym.
Bobby Franklin led the way with 13 points, while Ricky Henderson had nine points and a career-high 17 rebounds. The 17 boards are the most at Clarion since Ryan Wells had 19 vs. Kutztown Jan. 8, 2005. They are also tied for the eighth most boards at Clarion since 1980.
Chris Buchanan and Josh Yanke each added 11 points for the Golden Eagles with Yanke chipping in seven rebounds. Lamar Richburg and also had nine points for Clarion, and Lonnell Jones chipped in with eight.
Clarion led by just four points – 27-23 – with 1:10 to go in the first half but went on a 4-0 run to end the half with a 31-23 lead. The Golden Eagles then started the second half with a 29-8 run to go ahead 60-31 with 12:16 left.
Raymont Edwards led PSU-Beaver with 11 points, and Delon Bournes added 10.
Prior to the game, Clarion University president Joseph P. Grunenwald honored Golden Eagles head coach Ron Righter for his 300th win at Clarion, which he achieved Nov. 16 at Briarcliffe. Righter, who is one of just six PSAC men’s coaches to win 300 games at one institution, was given a Golden Eagle statue inscribed with the date of the game. Righter now has 302 wins at Clarion, the fifth most at one school by any PSAC men’s coach. He is 302-187 in his 19th year at Clarion
Clarion returns to action Saturday when it hosts Briarcliffe at 7 p.m.
