CLARION RALLY FALLS JUST SHORT AT BLOOMSBURG

BLOOMSBURG – Chris Buchanan and Ricky Henderson’s shots in the final two seconds both fell short allowing Bloomsburg to escape with a 67-65 win over Clarion Sunday afternoon at Bloomsburg.

Trailing by two, Clarion got the ball back with 12 seconds to play and took a time-out with six seconds left after the Huskies knocked the ball out of bounds.

Out of the time-out, Buchanan had a shot to tie the game but missed. Henderson then got the rebound and his put back hung on the rim before falling off.

Bloomsburg had taken a 67-65 lead on a layup by Buddy Rose with 56 seconds left.

The Golden Eagles trailed by 10 – 52-42 – with 11:33 left but went on a 13-2 run to take a 55-54 lead on a Henderson free throw with 5:55 to play before going ahead 58-56 on two Leon Kennedy charity shots with 4:49 to play.

But Bloomsburg came back and took a 63-60 lead on a three-pointer by Rose with 2:47 to play. The trey came moments after Clarion appeared to take the lead on a driving layup by Bobby Franklin, but Franklin was called for an offensive foul negating the basket. To make matters worse for Clarion, it was the fifth foul on it senior point guard.

But even without its floor lead, the Golden Eagles retied the game on two free throws by Henderson with 2:00 to play before Bloomsburg took a 65-63 lead on a jumper by Matt Jefferson with 1:47 left. Clarion tied it one last time on a Buchanan layup with a 1:10 left.

Henderson had his first double-double of the season (19 points, 12 rebounds) to lead Clarion, while Kennedy had 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Buchanan added 10 points, while Franklin had nine points, three assists and three steals despite being limited to 26 minutes because of foul trouble.
