KENNEDY’S CAREER HIGH LIFTS CLARION OVER MANSFIELD

MANSFIELD – Leon Kennedy scored a career-high 27 points on 10 of 13 shooting including 4 of 4 from three-point range to lift Clarion to an 82-77 road win at Mansfield Saturday afternoon.

Clarion (2-1) led 43-39 at halftime and used a 19-7 second-half run to build the advantage to 18 points – 72-54 – with 8:37 left to play.

The Eagles still led by 16 points – 77-61 – with 5:07 left, but Mansfield (1-3) went on a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 79-75 with 45 seconds left.

Clarion didn’t help itself from the line in the final minute going just 3 of 9 in the last 41 seconds, but the Mountaineers weren’t able to take advantage.

Ricky Henderson added 13 points and eight rebounds for Clarion, which shot 52.9 percent (27 of 51) for the game including 64.3 percent (9 of 14) from beyond the arc. Bobby Franklin chipped in with 10 points, eight assists and four steal, and Josh Yanke had seven points. Chris Buchanan, coming off the bench, had nine points and four rebounds.

Terrance Williams led Mansfield with 20 points and eight boards, while Kevin Hill also had 20 points. John Hampton picked up 13 points.
