RIGHTER WINS HIS 300TH GAME AT CLARION; GOLDEN EAGLES START SEASON WITH WIN AT BRIARCLIFFE
BETHPAGE, NY – Clarion University men’s basketball coach Ron Righter won his 300th game at Clarion with a season-opening 78-47 victory at Briarcliffe (NY) Thursday night.
With the victory, Righter, the winningest coach in school history, is 300-185 in his 19th season at Clarion. In 21 years as a head coach he is 324-209.
Win No. 300 was one of the easier ones on his resume, as the Golden Eagles built a 46-27 halftime lead and never looked back.
Junior Leon Kennedy paced a balanced attack for Clarion (1-0) with 15 points while adding seven steals and seven rebounds.
Senior Chris Buchanan added 10 points and six rebounds for the Eagles, while a pair of newcomers – sophomore Josh Yanke and junior Lonnell Jones also chipped in with 10 tallies. Yanke added six rebounds.
Senior Justin Collins contributed with nine points, and senior Bobby Franklin had four points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The Golden Eagles are now off until after Thanksgiving when they travel to Wayne State, Mich., for a Nov. 27 game.
