FRANKLIN SETS CAREER HIGH IN ASSISTS AS CLARION TOPPLES PSU-DUBOIS
CLARION – Bobby Franklin dished out a career-high 12 assists, and five Clarion players scored in double figures to lead the Golden Eagles to a 107-68 non-conference win over Penn State-DuBois Monday night at Tippin Gym.
Leon Kennedy, the reigning PSAC-West Player of the Week, led Clarion (10-13) with 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting while Josh Yanke added 16 points and seven rebounds. Justin Collins had 15 points, Lamar Richburg 12 and Lonnell Jones 10. Franklin and Brent Nelson each added seven, while David Blanks had a career-high eight tallies.
Clarion used a 34-7 run in the first half to open up a 40-12 lead and then went on a 22-9 run late in the game to great the 39-point spread.
The Genevro brothers combined for 33 points for PSU-DuBois (15-6). Marcus, a sophomore, had a team-high 18 including five three-pointers, while Kevin, a freshman, chipped in with 15 points and five assists. Jonny Songer added 10 points.
The Golden Eagles, winners of five of their past six games, return to action in a key PSAC-West clash with Lock Haven at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The teams are tied for fourth place in the PSAC-West with 4-5 marks with the top four teams making the playoffs. Each team has three PSAC-West games left so the winner will be in control of their own playoff destiny. It will be Student Spirit Night at Tippin with the Golden Eagle women also hosting Lock Haven at 6 p.m. The first 300 students through the door with a valid ID Card starting at 5 p.m. get a free T-Shirt. GOLDEN EAGLES NOTES - The game marks the first time Clarion has gone over 100 points since a 116-43 win over Ohio-Zanesville at the Salem Tournament Nov. 20, 2004 ... It was the first time Clarion has broken 100 at Tippin Gym since 111-46 win over Penn State-DuBois Jan. 7, 2004.
