CLARION’S TWO-GAME WIN STREAK ENDS SATURDAY AT CAL
CALIFORNIA – Clarion’s two-game win streak came to a halt with an 80-60 loss to California Saturday night at Cal’s Hamer Hall.
Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles (7-13 overall, 2-5 PSAC-West) remain a game back of Lock Haven and IUP in the loss column for the fourth and final PSAC Playoff berth awarded to the PSAC-West. Clarion travels to IUP for a key PSAC-West game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The game was never really in doubt with first-place Cal (17-4, 6-1) building a 37-24 halftime lead thanks to a 5-for-7 performance behind the three-point arc and extending that lead into the 20’s in the second half. The Vulcans were lights out from the field shooting 58.8 percent for the game – and being over 60 percent for most of it. It was just the third time this season Clarion has allowed 80 points.
Leon Kennedy led Clarion with 17 points, while Justin Collins added 11 and Lonnell Jones eight.
James Petty led a balanced Cal attack with 13 points, while Osborne Gardner added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Clarion’s game at IUP can be heard locally on 91.7 FM in Clarion and on the Internet at www.redzonemedia.com.
