BALANCED ATTACK HELPS GOLDEN EAGLES BREAK 10-GAME SLIDE
CLARION The Clarion University mens basketball team used a balanced attack that featured four players in double figures to get a 75-67 win over visiting Edinboro and a break a 10-game losing streak in PSAC-West action Wednesday night.
Josh Yanke led the Golden Eagles, who last won Dec. 17 over Penn State-McKeesport) (6-12 overall, 1-4 PSAC-West), with 16 points including 11 in the games first 7:46 while helping Clarion to an early 7-point lead 19-12.
The Golden Eagles parlayed that lead into a 32-21 advantage with 1:42 left in the first half before Edinboro ended the half on an 8-2 run that included a three-pointer from 10-feet behind the arc by Curtis Ingram at the first-half horn. That allowed the Fighting Scots (13-7, 3-2) to close to within five 34-29 at the half.
Edinboro then started the second half on a 9-4 run to tie the game at 38 with 15:04 to play.
But Clarion answered with a 17-6 lead to go back up by 11 points 55-44 on an old-fashion three-point play by Leon Kennedy with 9:46 left.
Edinboro cut the lead to four points with 64-60 with 1:28 to play. Clarion, though, sealed the game by hitting 9 of 11 free throws in the final 1:41.
Bobby Franklin added 14 points, while Lamar Richburg had 12 points. Kennedy chipped in with 11 points, nine points, five assists, three steals.
Ingram led Edinboro with 31 points on 11 of 15 shooting including 7 of 9 from three-point range. Daren Tielsch added 17 points and seven rebounds, while Ryan McLemore had 14 rebounds.
