SECOND HALF RUN LIFTS WEST CHESTER PAST CLARION

            WEST CHESTER – West Chester used a 24-7 second-half run to erase a 5-point deficit and beat Clarion 73-61 in PSAC Crossover men’s basketball action Sunday afternoon at West Chester.

            The Golden Eagles (5-9), who had lost seven straight, had taken a 42-37 lead nearly four minutes into the second half.

            But West Chester (8-5) outscored Clarion by 17 points over the next 11 minutes to take control of the game. The Golden Eagles did get the lead down to seven with just over a minute to play, but the Rams hit 8 of 8 free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

            Demetrius Graham led Clarion with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Leon Kennedy had 11 points and five rebounds and Josh Yanke 10 points and nine boards.

            Donnell Butler paced West Chester with a game-high 26 points, while Aaron Williams had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kenneth St. George chipped in with 18 points.

            Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts IUP in a PSAC-West contest. The game can be heard locally on WCUC-FM, 91.7 FM and on the Internet at www.redzonemedia.com.

            NOTES – The 7-game losing streak is Clarion’s longest since a 7-game slide near the end of the 2003-04 season … Graham has started the past two games and has scored 20 points while dishing out 11 assists … In both games he started alongside fellow point guard Bobby Franklin … Justin Collins saw his first action since Dec. 19 … Collins, who has been sidelined with an injury, scored eight points in 17 minutes vs. West Chester
