CLARION PLAYOFF HOPES FADING AWAY BUT NOT GONE YET
Clarion’s hopes of making the PSAC Playoffs for the third straight season are fading away, but they aren’t gone yet. For the Golden Eagles to make the postseason, they will have to win their final three games (Cal, Edinboro and IUP) and then get some help. That help would most likely have to include one of the following:
· IUP losing to Clarion and at Slippery Rock Wednesday.
· Slippery Rock losing to both Shippensburg today and IUP Wednesday.
· Edinboro losing to Clarion plus losing to either Lock Haven today or Shippensburg next Saturday.
· Lock Haven most likely would have to lose to either Edinboro today or California next Saturday.
EAGLES CONNECTING FROM THE LINE
Clarion has been connecting from the free-throw line all season long shooting 77.0 percent from the charity stripe on the season, the top mark in the PSAC. The school record for free-throw percentage in a season is 73.5 percent in 1995-96 … The Golden Eagles have four players in the Top 8 in free-throw shooting in the PSAC led by Melba Melton (3rd: 82.3%), April Gratton (4th: 79.1%), Katrina Greer (7th: 78.4%) and Jessica Albanese (8th: 76.6%). Melton’s percentage would be the third highest in a season in school history if the season ended today.
GRIMM NEEDS TWO ASSISTS TO MOVE INTO TOP 5 IN A SEASON AT CLARION
Sophomore point guard Ashley Grimm needs two assists t move into the Top 5 in a season in assists at Clarion. She currently has 123 helpers. Grimm’s 125 last year is the No. 5 mark in school history. She has an outside shot to have the third highest total in a season in school history, which is currently 142 set by Melba Melton last year.
