MELTON - CO-PSAC-WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Clarion senior guard Melba Melton was the co-PSAC-West Player of the Week this past week after averaging 18.0 ppg in the Eagles 3-0 week that included a PSAC-West opening 71-59 win over Shippensburg. Melba shot 54.3% from the field and 80% from the line during the week and scored a week-high 20 points against Ship Wednesday.
EAGLES LOOKING FOR 2ND STRAIGHT 2-0 PSAC-WEST START
The Golden Eagles are looking to go 2-0 in PSAC-West play for the second straight season and for the sixth time under 17th year head coach Gie Parsons. The five previous times Clarion has gone 2-0 in PSAC-West play they have averaged 22 wins per season and 9.6 wins in PSAC-West play. The only year Clarion started 2-0 in PSAC-West play under Parsons and failed to finish higher than .500 was in 2002 when it went 12-15 overall and 6-6 in the PSAC-West. Clarion won 23 games last year and went 10-2 in the PSAC-West, 26 games in 1994 and 11-1 in the West, 24 games in 1993 and 11-11 in the West and 25 games in 1992 and 10-2 in the West.
GRIMM MOVES INTO TOP 10 IN SCHOOL HISTORY IN ASSISTS
Sophomore point guard Ashley Grimm moved into the Top 10 in school history in assists over the weekend. She now has 223 career helpers, which is 9th best in school history. She needs 42 more assists to move into the Top 5. Fifth is currently held by Carlita Jones with 265.
CLARION HAS WON 3 OF PAST 4 PSAC-WEST ROAD OPENERS
Clarion has won three of its past four PSAC-West Road openers including two straight.
