EAGLES' VAUGHNS REACHES 1,000-POINT PLATEAU

            Clarion University senior guard Terrance Vaughns (Uniontown/Uniontown) became the 25th men’s player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau when he scored 15 points in the Golden Eagles 76-58 win at Geneva Saturday.

            Vaughns needed 13 points to reach the mark coming in the game and hit the plateau in grand fashion with a 3-pointer at the 16:43 mark of the second half that gave Clarion a 53-36 lead. He finished the day with 1,002 points.

            On the young season, Vaughns has 26 points in two games while hitting 40.9 percent of his shots (9 of 22) and 44.4 percent of his three-pointers (8 of 18). He is adding five rebounds, three assist and three steals.

            In his career, Vaughns has 192 three-pointers while shooting 38.7 percent (192 of 496) from the three-point line. He also shots 38 percent from the field and 86 percent from the free-throw line, one of the top marks in school history. He also has 383 rebounds, 187 assists and 150 steals in three years plus two games.

            A pre-season PSAC-West selection this season, Vaughns was a second-team PSAC-West selection last year after helping to lead the Golden Eagles to the PSAC-West title by scoring 12.1 ppg while coming away with 4.8 rpg, 50 assists and 51 steals.

            He has averaged double digits in points in each of his first three years at Clarion scoring 10.4 ppg as a freshman in 2002-03 and 12.0 ppg as a sophomore in 2003-04. 

            Vaughns scored a career-high 26 points vs. Bloomsburg last season while going over 25 points three times in his career (25 vs. California last year and 25 vs. District of Columbia in 03-04). He also set the school record for three-point field goal percentage in a career when he hit 47.7 percent of his long balls in 2002-03 (61 of 128).

            GOLDEN EAGLE NOTES – Vaughns is the son of Lisa Vaughns … He was a member of Uniontown’s 2002 WPIAL championship team that finished second in the state.
